The best Thailand snorkelling is that off the Andaman coast, not the snorkelling in the Gulf of Thailand – over-fishing and -diving have reduced the fish numbers and damaged the reefsl. The Surin Islands used to be a typical tropical idyll, till coral bleaching damaged the snorkelling. Following National Park guidelines, we do not any longer offer Surin. Some snorkel and dive companies still take snorkellers there, which is something we don’t approve of. If you are looking to add snorkelling to your holiday Thailand experiences, go to Koh Lanta. The snorkelling sites near Koh Lanta, especially Koh Rok, offer an incredible diversity and density of sea life in waters that somtimes seem to boil with fish. Big schoals of brightly-coloured triggerfish, box fish and damselfish pour like liquid down the reefs, so thick that they hide the coral.
